That still doesn't make it okay for you to go around carrying people like they're sacks of flour---injuries like that take time to heal, you know.
[Unlike the nurse, Rin just linefaces at Oikawa. Gawd. It's like she's a magnet for all the reckless, idiotic, stubborn fools in this world: Archer, Shirou, and now this smooth criminal (and he's not even a magus!). She rolls her eyes, crossing her arms as she's lying down, waiting while the nurse goes and retrieves a compress, cup of water, and two pills.
Politely smiling at the nurse, Rin says:]
[Or rather, is about to say:]
Thank y--- [And then she catches that 'mmhmm' look from the woman as she makes her remark about Oikawa, causing her to raise an eyebrow.] ----Uh, I think you mean show-off----
[Pursing her lips cynically, Rin nearly suceeds in taking her pills, up until she feels Oikawa's weight resting upon the bed, which prompts her to immediately scurry towards the headrest with a scandalized look on her face----
----Ri-chan?!] It's Rin! Don't get so familiar with me! And I wasn't thinking about--- [No, she totally was thinking about how she could repay him without getting any closer to him, except now he's doing it for her.
And her face more or less turns into a testing site for nuclear weapons. Her mouth opens and closes like a trout's as she tries to come up with something to say.
She's got nothing, and the nurse is giggling quietly to herself. Rin groans loudly, hugging the pillow to herself while she glares at Oikawa, eye lightly twitching.]
If I give you my number, you're only going to call me once, so you better call wisely. And what's your name, anyway?
[IT'S THE LEAST SHE CAN DO, RIGHT??
......But it might have something to do with being flattered by his, er. Persistence.
It's been a while!! [Ah, being told off by someone who isn't his coach, the nurse or Iwaizumi is pretty unheard of. Tohsaka you're doing a good job here, if the pout he's sporting now is anything to go by.]
Only one time? [Well, she didn't say anything about texting. He holds out his hand, knowing she's way more likely to have her phone right now than he is. If she accepts, he'll just send himself a text.
His hand kind of stops mid-air though, a look of confusion crossing his face. If girls from other schools know who he is, how does she not?] ...You don't know? [How conceited does he sound right now on a scale of 1-10???] Oikawa Tooru.
[He waves his hand a little, looking sheepish.] Sorry, I'm not used to this.
[Rin huffs, quickly averting her eyes at the sight of Oikawa's ensuing (and...endearingly childish) pout. Oh, well, pfft, sorry if she's backhandedly showing some concern.]
Don't come crying to me if you somehow end up with some mysterious pain, then. I did warn you.
[In the background, the nurse laughs, and Rin rolls her eyes, fishing out her phone (and...as of right now, unbeknownst to her, texting is indeed fair game) and accessing her contact list, which'll list her number at the very beginning.] But since I'm giving you my number, Oikawa-kun, you'd better make your call important.
[She finally takes the pills and gives him a flat look, because. Yeah. She can practically smell the ego on him. Pardon her, your highness. She is but a newcomer to your kingdom from a galaxy far, far away, and she'll say as much, grumbling----]
And sorry to disappoint you, Oikawa-kun, but I just moved here. I'm not quite familiar with who's who just yet.
[Although, this is a hell of a start. The nurse snorts, quipping, "Tohsaka-chan, it begins."]
[It's interesting to see how she's settling into this though, which is why he turns his gaze to her properly now, fake wailing at her.] But what if I want a hug, Ri-chan?!
[Are you really going to refuse... this face... Still, he takes hold of her phone, and really she needn't look up her details before he adds himself in there, texting himself:
this is your cute new girlfriend tooru-kun (•̀ᴗ•́)و ̑̑
Embarrassing, huh? He gives her a warm smile after, keeping it open as he hands it back to her. There's a glint in his eyes as he leans his hand back to rest it on the bed instead.] I'll be very careful with my phone call allowance.
[She's unlucky she chose the gym as her cut through, honestly.]
And what makes you so much as think that I'll oblige you?! Nevermind that my name is Rin!
[Rin's face explodes into 50 shades of red and mortification once more, eyes flashing as she slams her fists onto the mattress indignantly. Confound it all, she's got high willpower stat! Enough to dismiss his cute, adorably pouty puppy eye face as him being an immature dolt (except not really, she wishes)....!
Well, in truth, she has enough willpower stat to at least take her cell phone back while still being able to look him in the face with narrowed eyes----even though the grimace her lips are twisted into is clearly a sign of some sort of inner conflict.]
You'd better, because I know where to find you if problems arise.
[Little does she know she's probably only digging herself further into this hole she's created for herself. Oikawa's truly lucky that she's too focused on him to take a close look at her contact list to see how he just modified it.
She proceeds to cross her arms, squinting.]
Actually, I gave you my number, so why are you still here, anyway? [Rin starts to look around for the nurse, calling out:] Ah, sensei! Don't you have visting hours or something, because I'm pretty sure...
[She trails off once she spots the "Out to lunch" sign on the nurse's desk, and immediately facefaults, letting out a pained whimper----
----Which quickly turns into an irritated grunt the moment her focus returns to Oikawa.]
Don't you have practice to get back to? I'm pretty sure your teammates are waiting on you, Oikawa-kun. As you can see, I'm alive, and besides, I'm sure you want to do well, right? [She huffs, rolling her eyes.] Jeez...
[His eyes flicker over her face, a slow smile spreading across his lips as he looks at her.] It seems as though you've been abandoned.
[It's more likely that the nurse just wanted to give them privacy at this point, probably too exasperated of watching this dumb show. Still, Oikawa glances back towards the nurse's desk and resists the urge to laugh. Rin had sounded pretty desperate for some kind of release, which means that it's time for him to leave anyway.
He stands up, brushes down his clothes and looks back at her.]
Take care, Ri-chan.
[He doesn't answer anything else, but there's some kind of air to him that promises that it won't be the last she sees of him.]
[Said in a mutter as Rin crosses her arms, glower-pouting off to the side. She'll give the nurse credit for running while she could, however---because, really, who would want to be a party to this tomfoolery (read: absolutely no one with a shred of reason and sanity)?
Nevermind that Rin does not like that vaguely shit-eating smile on Oikawa's face, but hey, he's (finally) leaving (that way, her blood pressure can return to normal, healthy levels)---though that doesn't stop her from squinting suspiciously at him for two minutes before her expression settles back into one that's more flat (there's a hint of a blush at the persistent use of the name 'Ri-chan.' why.).
[Rin managed to at least get some rest up until second period, where she returned to class determined to put the events of the beginning of the day behind her, never to be spoken of in polite company for the rest of her life. Granted, she got a few odd, curious looks from a number of her peers (nevermind a few of the fangirls who would practically hiss at her every time she'd pass them by.), but those were easy to ignore.
For the most part, however, the rest of the day passed by uneventfully. Sure, she had to constantly look over her shoulder for any sign of Oikawa (just as a precaution, because life gives you lemons), but didn't come across him again.
Rin breathed a sigh of relief. It was like the Powers That Be decided, "ah, let's give this poor magus a break. Werk it, girl!"
And that's how it was. Now, it was the end of the day, and Rin has a fairly relaxed look on her face as she heads down the hallways of Aoba Jousai. Her gameplan? Hit the bookstore for a bit, homework, then arcane study. Maybe make Archer cook dinner after sending him out on patrol.
Giggling a bit to herself, she heads through the front doors, briskly walking toward the gates to freedom.]
[On one hand, you have to admire his dedication. On the other, it must be horribly irritating for Rin to walk outside and expect freedom only to find Oikawa Tooru leaning against the gate. One leg (his bad one) is propped up against the wall, the rest of his weight on the other leg. His arms are crossed over his chest, giving him a picture of coolness, though that all changes when she steps into his line of sight.
Good luck, Rin.]
Yoo hoo~ Ri-chan! [A wave follows, along with a smile, and most of the girls seem to bristle and glare back at her.] There's somewhere I wanted to take you on the way home, okay?
[And then the record scratch heard 'round the world ensued, and the Powers That Be were like, "nah, make her suffer more. It's hilarious" and proceeded to flip her skirt while they were at it. Figuratively, of course. Rin is left gaping at Oikawa like a trout trapped between the jaws of a ravenous grizzly bear. The girls are largely ignored by her, save for the brief embarrassed return glare she gives them that says, "you fucking think this was my idea?!"
Still, they're small fries and Rin prefers to go straight for the enemy commander; with that in mind, she forces a smarmy grin while simultaneously trying to keep herself fron blushing. It's not working. She's entirely 50% red in the face.]
Oh, really? [Rin crosses her arms, taking a few steps closer to Oikawa and raising her head to maintain eye contact (with some tremendous effort, because. let's face it. he's a looker.). The girls gasp, scandalized.] What if I have a really strict curfew, and my guardian is expecting me within a couple of hours?
[Spoilers: she doesn't, and neither Kirei or Archer are that overprotective. She's just being a shit and challenging him.]
[He's doing a good job of ignoring all the glares and shrieks of distaste that Rin is getting, focusing more on her own reaction to his appearance at the gates. Still, even when she's trying so hard to seem unfazed and feisty about all this she's flushed in the face.
It's cute. Though at this point he's not sure if it's because she's unused to it, or if it's because it's him.] A couple of hours? My, my, Ri-chan. What do you think we're going to be doing?
[His voice is teasing as he reaches for her hand, locking them together.] Just one hour will do.
It-it was an estimate, fool! I don't know what you might have been thinking!
[It's a mix of both, really. She's...never met a guy who's this. Er. Direct about his dealings with the fairer sex.
In other words, she's completely and utterly out of her element. Hence, why she lets out a loud, strangled squeak when he links his hand with hers.
Meanwhile, the girls collectively screech, and Rin's eye twitches. Okay. They're not helping her morale in the thick of this boss fight. She shifts her free arm behind her back while sticking her chin out at Oikawa.
She will not back down, High Dragon! Even if she's only Level 5 and he's probably like.....Level 75.]
F-fine. I'm going to be keeping track of the time, so watch yourself.
[And suddenly, the fangirls disperse, screeching something about a firecracker. Rin's hand moves back to its side.]
[It's funny how she thinks she's handling herself right, what is she going to do when they're in a booth at a cafe and he's making her share a drink and therefore they're indirectly kissing?! Well, maybe he'll save that for in a bit, but he does start to walk in the direction of a cute bookshop with a cafe attached to it.
She seemed like the studious type, after all.]
You only moved here recently, right, Ri-chan? I was thinking about it earlier and there's a place you'll probably really like.
[He sure did ignore everything she said up until that point, even when he eases the hold of their hands, making it somewhat more casual and less like he needs to grip on.]
[Then it's a good thing he didn't notice that she...just flung a bit of magecraft at the fangirls, who have since fled the scene. He'll notice that her hand feels a bit tense, even when he loosens his grip. Look. She...just might be having a bit of stage fright, okay....because what do when you're a tsundere who stumbles across a boy who actually doesn't act a fool around girls.....
Swallowing a bit, she grudgingly nods, though she soon blinks at the sight of the book café.
Well. This...could be a good sign.
Except she won't let him in on that, because she quickly proceeds to make an attempt at look perfectly nonchalant, letting out a small "hmph!" noise.]
Yes. My family's got an estate here, so they sort of figured a change of scenery would be nice. [Well, actually, she's here for training to be more...incognito after getting in trouble with her teacher. But. Shh.] Still, how generous of you. Are you always this accommodating to newcomers, Oikawa-kun?
[Rin arches an eyebrow as they head closer to the shop. You're on, bruh.]
Of course I am, Ri-chan. [There's a smile on his face as he looks back at her, thumb gliding over her hand as a means to tell her to relax.] Though perhaps not this much.
[He looks sheepish as he laughs, though his gaze drifts away. Not everyone I meet is this difficult.]
Will you be staying for a while or heading back in a month or two?
[Still, it's all pleasant talk for now, even as he holds the door open for her, letting her step into the book cafe first.]
Now look here, dude. No matter how (sorta) cute and (maybe) charming a boy (kinda) may be, Tohsaka Rin shall not fall so easily, as you must know.
(Except she's a quarter reeled in, let's face it.)
Rin squints a bit as his laughing, though she proceeds to look a little surprised at his show of chivalry with the door---and has to will herself to not turn pink in the process.
Soon enough, she heads toward a table further in the back, underneath a very pretty candlelabra and across from a shelf full of leatherbound books. She's not one for crowds.]
But I'll be here a while. [Said a little less harshly, as she takes a seat and peeks at the menu, looking slightly impressed. They've got quite a variety of coffee drinks, and as she's making a decision (caramel or cinnamon?), she flicks her eyes back over to Oikawa.] I'm headed to London for the summer, but I'll come back here. I've got to go to school, after all.
[A beat. She is, admittedly, a little curious about the volleyball thing, though. Rin tilts her head to the side, putting down the menu for the moment.]
Isn't that up to you? [An easy smile follows that, though really despite how he's teasing her it's interesting to hear what she has to say. They don't get many transfer students here, it's a nice change of pace.]
To London? [He sounds surprised at that.]
I've never been that far. Do you like it there? [Though hmm, maybe the fact she's asking about him too is a sign that he's getting her to like him for real now.]
Maybe. There's a lot of scary people out there, so we'll see!
I don't know. Is it really up to me? Because you have amazing persistence, regardless.
[Rin smirks a bit mischievously at Oikawa. Well...if he's gonna keep poking at her, now's a good time to start poking back.
Still, at his question about London, Rin takes a small breath, looking a little taken aback. Well...she's not exactly going there for recreational purposes.
In fact, it's for something that could decide her future. She looks off to the side a bit.]
It's my first time going, actually; a family friend lives there, and invited me. I've only seen pictures in books and online. [A sigh.] I've been trying to brush up on my English for that reason.
[Also w o w?! He's...he's just fairly interesting, no "daisukis" are to be expected here...!! But, Rin actually smiles a bit at that.
Maybe there's some substance in him, after all.]
Oh, come on. You seem dedicated enough. You're not shy at all, so why worry about bumping into scary players? If anything, you can probably make them look stupid with your way with people.
[Is it really poking back though? Maybe, he'll pretend as such, anyway.]
Ah, how mean, Ri-chan! I'm just trying to make you feel welcomed! [Is that really what this is, though??? No.]
Ah, will you show me your pictures when you come back? [You're stuck in this hot mess now.] Especially if you're taking tourist shots. Selfies are fine, Ri-chan.
[His way with people, huh? The thing is that he's probably one of those scary players--at least Kageyama considers him as such. There's very little honesty, and he attacks mentally as much as physically. Gross.]
Why would I do something like that?
[Ah, you're getting to know him way to quickly, gurlie.]
[Rin gives Oikawa her absolute smarmiest look. She's only doing it because she's not the kind of girl who likes making things too easy!]
More like you spirited me away.
[Oikawa pls.......although, at his suggestion, Rin smirks all the more. This is a guy with no fear. She's never met anyone this upfront about anything, nevermind girls.
And so, she's going to mess with him, if only to see his reaction. She laughs.]
Ah, but what if I tend to do dangerous and daring things? I'm not sure you'd like to see that side of me, Oikawa-kun, even if it's just through pictures.
[Interpret that as you will. It's actually true, to some extent...
...As for getting to know him just a little too quickly? Well, she understands him, to some extent. In fact---her pride and determination are pretty on par with his. She laughs again at his question.]
Well, you want everyone to see that you're good at what you do, right? So...make everyone else see that, and show the other players that you've earned respect and admiration with your skill.
[A beat, and her smile turns a touch more genuine.]
You could have said no. [His lips twitch at that, please stop denying the fact you want to be here.
But Rin????? He looks towards her in confusion at first (pictures??) before laughing.] You don't really look the type, but I don't mind.
[Especially if the pictures are kinky [relaxedhomie]]
Ah, that's not what I meant, Ri-chan. [But:] It works out the same though, doesn't it? Don't worry, I won't let anyone else win. Seijou will go to nationals.
I happen to be a proper lady when I know have to be one, you know. [Rin purses her lips daintily as she hails over a nearby waitress, having decided on a cinnamon cappuccino. Sure, dude. In the immortal words of a famous 80s song: don't stop believin'.
Also, in the equally immortal words of another 80s song, girls just wanna have fun, Oikawa. Rin arches an eyebrow, now smirking slightly.]
But, I'll leave it to your imagination in the meantime, Oikawa-kun. I also don't like ruining good surprises.
[Which is a joke, but. Play your cards right, and maybe you'll end up with at least one interesting photo attachment to a text message over the summer.
Rin, meanwhile, crosses her arms, still smiling, though it's now more encouraging.]
They'd better, because I might just find a way to watch at least one of your games sometime.
[The waitress arrives, and Rin looks toward her, but not before asking Oikawa---]
[He orders a latte with toffee syrup to go along with it, and actually leans back to admire how hard she's trying here.] Ah, but I'd rather wait and see, Ri-chan! Or it takes all the fun out of it too
[But...] Will you sing a little cheer for me too? I'll look out for you.
[There's also:]
Did you want a cake to go with it? [Well, he sort of answered the question.]
A little mystery never hurt anyone, no. [Rin's smirk turns a tad mischievous, and she covers her mouth daintily with her hand.] As it turns out, I can be quite mysterious.
[She laughs, and puts a finger to her chin in mock thought. Ehhh...maybe, just maybe, he's not so bad. He's fun (on top of being, well, attractive). Challenge considered and accepted, loverboy.]
Hey, I said I can be mysterious! I'd rather surprise you. Because, who knows? [She's actually trolling when she says this, but---] A kiss might go to the victor.
[Rin smiles a bit toothily at Oikawa, not realizing that she may have just dug herself into a hole just now. In the meantime, she nods.]
Cake sounds good. I can split it with you, if you want---after all, I may as well treat you since you did help me in spite of your parading me around.
[She's really cute, it seems. He smiles and leans to press his chin into the palms of his hands as she talks, clearly trying to act coy. He isn't sure if she realises at this point, but there's no way this isn't flirting.
Especially when she makes a promise like that.
His eyes widen, and he finds that kissing this girl, even if it might only be chance, would be something he'd like to aim for. She's feisty, cute, as well as intelligent. She also seems to understand his passion for volleyball...
He leans forward, a wide smile on his lips:] Is that a promise~?
I'll take the cake and anything you'd like to offer, after all.

You're on, bruh.]
nah
[He looks sheepish as he laughs, though his gaze drifts away. Not everyone I meet is this difficult.]
Will you be staying for a while or heading back in a month or two?
[Still, it's all pleasant talk for now, even as he holds the door open for her, letting her step into the book cafe first.]

[Rin crosses her arms.
So. Are you trying for professional volleyball?
no subject
To London? [He sounds surprised at that.]
I've never been that far. Do you like it there? [Though hmm, maybe the fact she's asking about him too is a sign that he's getting her to like him for real now.]
Maybe. There's a lot of scary people out there, so we'll see!
[As if he'd do anything else, honestly.]
no subject
If anything, you can probably make them look stupid with your way with people.
no subject
Ah, how mean, Ri-chan! I'm just trying to make you feel welcomed! [Is that really what this is, though??? No.]
Ah, will you show me your pictures when you come back? [You're stuck in this hot mess now.] Especially if you're taking tourist shots. Selfies are fine, Ri-chan.
[His way with people, huh? The thing is that he's probably one of those scary players--at least Kageyama considers him as such. There's very little honesty, and he attacks mentally as much as physically. Gross.]
Why would I do something like that?
[Ah, you're getting to know him way to quickly, gurlie.]
no subject
It's not really all that complicated, Oikawa-kun.
no subject
But Rin????? He looks towards her in confusion at first (pictures??) before laughing.] You don't really look the type, but I don't mind.
[Especially if the pictures are kinky [relaxedhomie]]
Ah, that's not what I meant, Ri-chan. [But:] It works out the same though, doesn't it? Don't worry, I won't let anyone else win. Seijou will go to nationals.
no subject
So, what are you having?
no subject
[But...] Will you sing a little cheer for me too? I'll look out for you.
[There's also:]
Did you want a cake to go with it? [Well, he sort of answered the question.]
no subject
[She laughs, and puts a finger to her chin in mock thought. Ehhh...maybe, just maybe, he's not so bad. He's fun (on top of being, well, attractive). Challenge considered and accepted, loverboy.]
Hey, I said I can be mysterious! I'd rather surprise you. Because, who knows? [She's actually trolling when she says this, but---] A kiss might go to the victor.
[Rin smiles a bit toothily at Oikawa, not realizing that she may have just dug herself into a hole just now. In the meantime, she nods.]
Cake sounds good. I can split it with you, if you want---after all, I may as well treat you since you did help me in spite of your parading me around.
no subject
Especially when she makes a promise like that.
His eyes widen, and he finds that kissing this girl, even if it might only be chance, would be something he'd like to aim for. She's feisty, cute, as well as intelligent. She also seems to understand his passion for volleyball...
He leans forward, a wide smile on his lips:] Is that a promise~?
I'll take the cake and anything you'd like to offer, after all.
